Sort; A Tribute to the American Worker

This exhibition is an experiment in allowing the public to see the nature of work in the art studio. The art is the action of sorting the materials I have recycled from older work to create new installations for the month of August.

I will have scheduled shifts that I am present throughout the month and the space will change daily as I continue working. Note the log in sheets

located on the southeast wall for tasks & times I am working.

The concept of artist as laborer is often overlooked by the viewing audience. Whatever your media, making the work takes work, and an hourly living wage is rarely factored into the sales of creative works.

I have always supported the organizing of unions for craft & skilled laborers as the training and years of dedication to the practice are comparable to the years of education required for the white-collar sector. I often wonder why the artist is not given the same considerations when determining fees for services rendered.

Please drop in to the see the space regularly as it will evolve throughout the month of August. All works & individual items are available for sale calculating an hourly scale wage for pricing.
